What a great opportunity. My buddy Benn (the Flashbulb) is booked at this dance club place and is put
in charge of finding a headliner. He did a remix for Bogdan
(which was just put out on rephlex), and asked him to play. He accepted. Benn
asked if i'd join in, I did *of course* and that was it. Although there was
much excitement surrounding the show (people from virginia and nevada came down
for it), the turnout wasn't too stellar. It was fun nonetheless.
Benn, me and Nerissa had to pick up Bogdan from O'hare. He was to arrive via Air Canada.
While we waited Nerissa took a picture of her jacket =] , and some guy asked me "if that thing was a
camera or something". I took a picture of him.Bogdan and his nice girlfriend walked through the hardcore
security check and headed our way. Bogdan's a quiet, polite guy. Then we made the trek back to Benn's car and crammed in.
We drove to Benn's house, picked up some gear, and headed to the club. It was all mardigras fiesta style.
In the bathroom I saw posters for B96 Djs (a crappy rap/dance station in chicago).
Tim Spinnin' Shomer and 2 Kool Chris and stuff. Whatever. Oh, but they did have
these funny Osama Bin Laden Urinal Pad things. Also had a nice "green room"
which was signed by Vanilla Ice amongst many others. Lots of Beatle cover bands.
Nate (a friend of mine and Benn's) is ready for the show. Hellz ya. The stage
was pretty big and had some stupid psychedelic lava lamp crap being projected
onto it. I cut that out and projected Atari break movies, videogame captures,
and old nintendo commercials for my set. No gameboy pictures of my set though
=[ I just played a half yuppster / half handheld set. I didn't really like being
on such a big stage, so far away from people. I like being down in it all. It
was fun though.
The Flashbulb rocked it out with a nice soothing set of goodness.
Projected the movie "Microcosm" which is a really freaking cool film about insects
and bugs n' stuff. Sadly he couldn't play his violin because it kept going out
of tune. Somehow little girl's panties got on the stage.
After Benn's set we chilled out backstage a bit and took pictures. I got my "face"
picture of bogdan i'd been wanting and one of the both of us marveling at the camera, and
it was all good. Then it was time for him to go on.
He wanted the lights to be turned as far down as possible, so pictures were tricky to get.
He played with his laptop sitting flat on the stage and bent down to it and turned out a crazy
set of speedy tracks. Seemed to know what to play to get the audience to go crazy. In the video
my friend Tim took(the biggest bogdan fan), he screamed like a woman and peeked out the audio.
It's hilarious. Tim sang along too... "I just wannnna play checkersssss". Hehe. Bogdan
went nuts on stage; stomped his feet and slammed around the stage. Then he put on a nice soothing
track and laid down on the couch and let it just play through. The show went
over the time laid out by the venue and they got a bit pissy, but whatever.
It rawked. I think mostly everyone who went, went home satisfied. And thas it.
