01.18.02 squareone, chicago / from concentrate: yuppster, string theory, paul b. davis, heavy petting, etc.
My buddy Alex, who organized my very first public appearance as a serious electronic musician- "from
concentrate", now asked me to play at the sequal, with a great lineup of
electronic acts playing on 2 floors of this juice bar / coffee house place called
squareone. I had to haul all my stuff (CPU, flat screen monitor, and gameboy
bag) via the L to the Damon stop. I was to play downstairs so I set up my crap
and mingled.
Multi-modal started off the night with an electro flavor, using a bunch of old drum machines and a gameboy.
As you can see they had alot of junk to mess with. Then the mysterious Joe-E
(chaosh) made some experimental noise. Then some guy's synth appeared.
Above, to the left, is the very talented Proswell, who played
a very wonderful, but low volume, set. Then Paul B. Davis, of Beige
Records, did an awesome DJ set with a nice collection of tracks. He ran the audio through his Tandy Color Computer creating a nice colorful compliment
to the music and also screened Urbandale, a ascii movie by the Beige Programming Ensemble.
He's pictured above wearing his Bodenstandig 2000 shirt.
